Art SG

Taking place in January at the Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre at the heart of Singapore’s financial district, ART SG is the leading global contemporary art fair in Southeast Asia.

The fair launched in 2023 and features a stellar line-up of international and regional art galleries alongside a curated program of large-scale installations, experimental film and moving image, thought-provoking panel discussions and performances. The fair fosters artistic excellence and cultural dialogue across Southeast Asia and the broader Asia Pacific region. Differentiated from other art fairs, ART SG is geared towards the interests of the globally minded collector and aims to expand these interests by promoting new discourse and connections; encouraging cross-border collecting. ART SG helps galleries to broaden and deepen their networks and make an impact within the city of Singapore and the wider region. With three different gallery sectors: GALLERIES, FOCUS and FUTURES the fair showcases high quality international content alongside distinctive Southeast Asian contemporary art practice, creating a multi-faceted place of exploration for new and established collectors.

The Art Assembly is an exciting affiliation of three major international art fairs founded in the Asia Pacific region. Comprising ART SG in Singapore, Taipei Dangdai in Taiwan and Tokyo Gendai in Japan, The Art Assembly represents a joint initiative between three of the world’s leading art fair organisers: Sandy Angus, Tim Etchells and Magnus Renfrew.

The Art Assembly aims to drive innovation, deepen engagement with contemporary art and encourage cross-cultural conversations. It achieves this by strengthening collaboration and promoting knowledge and resource sharing across the group. The Art Assembly pulls together decades’ worth of experience, expertise and an extensive global network of contacts and assets, to the benefit of its member fairs, galleries and audiences.

With a deep-rooted understanding and appreciation of Asia and its many remarkable cultural landscapes, artistic practices, histories and audiences, The Art Assembly provides important meeting places for the local and international art worlds to converge. The affiliation’s three cornerstone fairs act as regional platforms for creative and commercial exchange at a time when appetite for the consumption of art is more apparent than ever. Each world-class event is tailored to its local market, with each vision further brought to life by their accomplished and passionate Fair Directors.

Focused on building meaningful and long-term relationships with local institutions, artists, galleries, collectors and their growing audiences, The Art Assembly’s fairs continue to pave the way for the exciting future of international art scenes in Asia.

The Art Assembly organizes 3 art fairs across Asia Pacific, making it the leading art fair organizer in this important and fast-growing region. Over the last decade the Assembly’s fairs have connected over one million visitors, with the world’s leading galleries and artists. Each fair has a clear and distinct orientation, bringing together local and international exhibitors and audiences, whilst working closely with local galleries, artists and institutions to ensure a strong identity that reflects and respects its context. Each of the fairs in The Art Assembly is deeply embedded within its local and regional art ecosystems, and plays an important role in expanding the market. Our fairs are committed to promoting the excitement of their host cities to an international audience.

The Art Assembly adheres to international standards of practice in terms of selectivity with applications subject to peer review by each fair’s Selection Committee comprised of internationally respected gallerists.

"The Art Assembly has considerable experience in Asia, having launched Art Hong Kong with the stakeholders behind the Art Assembly in 2008. We’ve played quite a substantial role in the evolution of the contemporary art market in Asia over the last 15 years. The situation in Asia has developed considerably since we first arrived. Each of the major domestic markets deserves its own art fair, and regional hubs such as Singapore—which acts as a hub for Southeast Asia and the Indo-Pacific—have an important and different role to play.

We don’t want to impose an external brand on a particular place; we want to emphasize the particularity of each fair and the contexts in which they take place. We’re really keen to celebrate the local context as well as to bring in international standards of practice in terms of selectivity that gives confidence for galleries to participate. Importantly, this element of selectivity also gives newcomers confidence in sort of taking the first step on their collecting journey. They know they can’t go too far wrong because everything has been through a rigorous selection process.

In terms of the broader strategy for the Art Assembly, our feeling is that through having these six different moments on the art calendar in Asia Pacific throughout the year, we have a constant presence, and we’re giving people the opportunity for multiple touch points in the conversations year-round. We’re able to share resources in terms of our VIP relations networks, and we now have people on the ground around the region who are working year-round to attract collectors and stakeholders from their communities to attend our fairs in different places. And we also have our local teams on the ground who have a fantastic knowledge of those particular scenes, and a nuanced understanding of the cultural production and landscape.

We’ve got deep roots in all of the constituencies in which we operate, but also very broad branches in terms of this network. The network effect is something that we’re looking to really try and build on over the coming years."(Art Assembly Co-Founder Magnus Renfrew, Aug 18 2023, Artsy)The Art Assembly is an exciting affiliation of three major international art fairs founded in the Asia Pacific region.
